On The Occasion of Netaji Subhas Bose’s Birthday

ABSTRACT

The blog post titled “Down the Memory Lane: Netaji Bose and the Condition of Contemporary Indian Armed Forces” commemorates Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s relentless struggle for India’s independence, particularly through the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) and the Naval Revolt, which significantly contributed to India’s political liberation. It highlights Netaji’s vision of unifying the British and Indian armies by fostering a collective sense of belonging, supported by mass mobilization.

The article then reflects on current issues facing the Indian Armed Forces, including:

  • Simulated surgical strikes and the sacrifice of army personnel for political gains.
  • Failing cartographies along the Line of Control (LOC) and Line of Actual Control (LAC).
  • Lack of basic amenities for lower-ranked personnel, including the absence of pensions and long-term security.
  • Criticism of the Agnipath scheme, describing it as reducing the army to “utilizable war machines.”
  • Concerns over the Indian Air Force Group Insurance Society’s funds being affected by the DHFL Scam, leaving widows of retired officials in distress.

Drawing inspiration from Netaji Bose, the post envisions an Indian Republic progressing towards a secular socialist federation, free from the constraints of crony oligarchical fascism imposed by the current politico-economic regime.

For further reading, the post provides links to previous articles discussing discontent within the Indian Armed Forces, the government’s lack of concern for military personnel, and detailed accounts of the Indian Air Force’s financial issues related to the DHFL Scam.

Remembering the Azad Hind Fauj a.k.a. Indian National Army’s relentless struggle headed by the indomitable, fearless Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, as well as the Naval Revolt that followed, which finally culminated in the political independence of India, we are making this blog post to commemorate the fight for purna swaraj or complete liberation from the shackles of all forms of tyranny and despotism. Netaji’s dream was to carry forward a military coup by merging the so-called “British” Army and “Indian Army” by harbouring the sentiments of collective belongingness, though WITH proper mass mobilization.

In this context, we reflect on the present state of the Indian Armed Forces, which indicate a range of issues from simulated surgical strikes, sacrificing the lives of Indian army personnel for petty vote bank politics, failing cartographies across the LOC and LAC, the lack of basic amenities to the lowest ranks of Indian Armed Personnel including the absence of pension and long-term security. The Agnipath scheme is nothing more than digging the graves of Indian Army as mere “utilizable war machines”. In particular, we want to again make our readers aware about the Indian Air Force Group Insurance Society, a significant amount of money of which is still stuck due to the DHFL Scam, rendering widows of retired Indian Army officials helpless, and their cries nearly unheard. When they were being promised by the RBI-appointed CoC for full repayment of their dues, they boldly denied the proposal in the altruistic spirit of making the CoC pay for everyone without any discrimination, which was never done, as we all know by now!

Taking our cue from the great Netaji Bose in this context, we envisage an Indian Republic that moves towards a sphere of secular socialist federation, free from the bondages of crony oligarchical fascism perpetrated by the present politico-economic regime.

We hereby present the collage of our previous relevant posts in this regard, for the kind perusal of our readers:

The piece also condemns the government’s silence while protests escalate, contrasting India’s indifference with proactive international leadership, like President Macron. It calls for immediate intervention, such as declaring an emergency or initiating a dialogue, to resolve the crisis.

At the end, we would like to offer this letter to our beloved Netaji.

Dear Netaji,

Maybe we have failed your dreams. Yet, we do need you when India is suffering under the yolk of rampant privatization, communal politics and class polarization. We did not listen to your warning call for stopping the incoming of the “Hindu Rashtra”. We are not being particularly messianic here. We do know that “Unhappy is the land that needs and/or breeds a hero”, as stated by Brecht in his Life of Galileo. However, we do desire your hauntological presence to direct us towards the legitimate path to restore the fundamental human rights of the people of India.

Always Yours,

We, the People of India

Moreover, it is noteworthy that R. N. Tagore himself wrote a song to pay tribute to Netaji’s lifetime fight, which is given as follows:

Translated, it means:

It was a period of awating, gazing at the streets and counting moments
Finaly you reveal on the spring.
You conquer the world as a galant juvenile –
I wonder.
Charming was the song on your exuberent voice.
Your scarf flutters apathetic like the wind with aroma
KRISHNA-CHURA blossoms described on your ears.
A blazing expression concealed behind your youthful smile –
I wonder.
I wonder, under which quiver you hide your weapon.
